Best Drugstore Lipsticks For Spring

FINALLY we are in Spring and the sun made a ‘guest appearance’ last week! Yay! I didn’t think it was ever going to happen! Is it me or has this freezing cold winter weather lasted a lifetime?!

As the seasons change I like to change up my lipsticks. Nudes will always be a staple in my makeup bag but I love to switch things up with a splash of colour now and again. And this Spring it’s all about pink! So it’s out with the berries and in with the blush!

I’ve rounded up all the best colours for this season, with a mixture of matte and cream textures. And to make things a little easier for you I have also paired them up with matching lip liners. So lets get started…

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick – 983 Beige Babe

This is probably my favourite lipstick from the post and its pretty much a dupe of the Charlotte Tilbury Kim K.W. Hot Lips Lipstick (here)…bonus! Beige Babe (here) is a new shade from the line. It is highly pigmented and stays on really well. In fact all the lipsticks I have tried from this range do. I wore the Honey Beige shade (here) for my wedding day and it really did last all day. I have quite dark pigmented lips so its nice to have a lighter shade to change things up a little, without making you look like you have foundation lips from Year 8 (thankfully I never followed that trend!). I have paired this one up with the Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in 080 Blushing Nude (here). See the lipstick tested out below.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream – Stockholm

Now I don’t know whether its a good thing or bad thing that we now have NYX in Boots! If you ask me it’s definitely a good thing…ask my bank balance…BAD…VERY BAD! The lip creams are a great combination of a silky texture with the effect of a liquid lipstick, but a little softer so are great for day to day wear. Stockholm (here) is a matte, peachy nude that is durable and will not dehydrate your lips. You hay have to re-apply throughout the day but not as often you as you would a standard lipstick. I have again teamed this one up with the Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in 080 Blushing Nude (here). See the lipstick tested out below.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Matte Addiction Lipstick – 633 Moka Chic

As I was browsing Boots, the new L’Oréal Matte Lipsticks really caught my eye. Especially the shade Moka Chic (here). I kept putting it down thinking do I really need anymore lipsticks?!…But I just kept coming back to it. It has a great pigment and is such a pretty vintage dusky rose that I love, not to mention the fact that it’s such an easy colour to wear! It’s the sort of lipstick that you can keep in your handbag and whip out anytime for a pop of colour that will compliment any outfit.

I have paired this one up with one of my favourite lip liners from Rimmel, the Exaggerate Lip Liner in 063 Eastend Snob (here). Remember when everyone was going crazy over Kylie Jenner lip shades and Velvet Teddy (here) was the must have lipstick paired with MAC lip liner Soar (here) or Whirl (here)? Well this liner is VERY very similar (and Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk (here)) and comes in at a fraction of the price at just £3.99 (here). See the lipstick tested out below.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick – 942 Blushing Pout

Again back to the Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks. I really can’t get enough of them and this colour, Blushing Pout (here) is just AMAZING! It’s a beautiful bright pink with purple undertones that’s not too in your face, giving you a soft dash of colour. If spring were a lipstick this would be it! These are currently on offer in Boots and Superdrug, buy one get one half price so what better excuse to get a new lippie? Matching lip liner for this one is the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in 101 You’re All Mine (here). See the lipstick tested out below.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick – Tea & Cookies

Liquid lipsticks are all the rage at the minute and you can see why! They give a flawless matte finish, little need for lip liner (although I have included some matching ones and I will explain why in a minute) and they are long lasting. My only problem with them is they tend to flake a little so  you will have to re-apply throughout the day, if you are wearing a bold colour. But that said, the NYX Liquid Suede Lipsticks (here) are one of the best formulas I have come across. I can wear them all day at work without having to re-apply…probably because they are waterproof so make sure you have an oil based makeup remover to hand!

The pigment is great but they can be a little tricky to apply. Hence why I included matching lip liners. They make application a little easier as you can perfect the shape with a liner before going in with the lipstick and it prevents bleeding which is another thing liquid lipsticks have the tendency to do (although I have never experience that with these). They have a super velvety texture and leave a gorgeous matte finish. This colour was quite a hard one to find a matching high street lip liner for so I mixed two together, but either would do the job. I used Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob (here) and You’re All Mine (here).

Tea & Cookies is the perfect Barbie pink for this Spring! Very similar to Blushing Pout (here), but without the purple undertones so it’s a little easier to wear. See the lipstick tested out below.

Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bouquet – 240 Galactic Mauve

Aaaand again…another Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick…sorry! They are just too good and the range of colours to choose from is incredible! This one had a slight twist as it’s not matte! Usually I’m a matte kinda girl but wearing them everyday can leave your lips a little dehydrated. Shimmer lipsticks are making a comeback and its about time! This shade Galactic Mauve (here), is a berry/blush tone and is a great transition shade from Winter to Spring. Its quite a subtle look, giving more of a tint to the lips rather than a bold block colour so if you are looking for a more statement look I suggest layering this over the top of another shade (preferably a liquid lipstick or a lip liner, which should help with the durability of the lipstick too).

Don’t be put off with the shimmer. It’s not blindingly glittery but gives a lovely soft sheen to the lips. Unfortunately with any creamy lipstick you will have to re-apply as they don’t last anywhere near as long as mattes do. Pair this one with Eastend Snob (here). I don’t need to harp on about how much I love this liner again…you get the jist! See the lipstick tested out below.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick – 660 In Love With Ginger

Finally a beautiful red/orange number, ‘In Love With Ginger’ (here). A slight variation on your usual go to red, the orange hues in this lipstick really give your lips that extra pop! Bursting with colour, these lipsticks are hydrating and so comfortable to wear. They contain vitamins A, C and E which help repair and protect your lips’ delicate skin! Again with this line there are quite a wide range of colours, so if bright and bold isn’t really you check the others out. I also recommend ‘Nude or Not to Nude’ (here) a lovely shimmery pale pink.

Rimmel have kindly produced a perfectly matched lip liner called ‘Call Me Crazy’ (here). For a longer lasting wear and a brighter look, apply the liner all over your lips before adding the lipstick on top. See the lipstick tested out below.

Are you going to give any a try? What are your favourite Spring lipsticks? Let me know, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Lots of love
